PPM Primavera and ChatGPT's Role

Recently, The Economist published a chart showing the jobs that ChatGPT is likely to take away from people. The list of “endangered” jobs includes telemarketers, teachers, traders, and professionals in the sectors such as securities and commodity contracts, insurance carriers, data processing and hosting, information services, and publishing.

Technically speaking, ChatGPT is a “generative” Artificial Intelligence. Simply put, it is nothing but a chatbot with the capability to come out with its own answers to our questions. Millions of people right now are having intelligent conversations with this tool. If ChatGPT can speed up a human job by at least 50%, companies will not hire people for the job – instead, they will give the job to ChatGPT.

ChatGPT and Primavera

Project Management does not figure in the list – at least not yet. But ChatGPT is not bad news for project managers. Any profession that wants excellence will need to adopt AI in whatever form it appears. One of the ways to use ChatGPT for project management is to integrate it with PPM software such as Primavera. Chat GPT 3, an advanced version, has an API that allows developers to build conversational AI applications. When the API is integrated with Primavera, it can enable PM professionals to generate human-like responses to text input.

There are many ways in which ChatGPT can contribute to the field of Project Management, and help professionals in this field become more productive. Sooner or later ChatGPT will become a subject of PPM courses and PPM training programs. And it will not be a surprise if PPM Certifications can also take into consideration a professional’s ChatGPT exposure. Here are a few areas where ChatGPT integration with Primavera can make a big difference in managing projects:

Summarisation

ChatGPT is primarily a Language Model – a “large language model” at that. It means that the tool can analyse large bodies of text and data that reside in Primavera, and have that as a basis for summarising project documents, reports, and other long-form text instantly. We can instruct it to include specific topics or subjects and give it a specific word count as well. ChatGPT with Primavera can create reports for all stakeholders including team members, vendors, and stakeholders.

Intelligent Conversations

With Primavera, ChatGPT becomes a Project Management chatbot with which project managers can have engaging conversations. Instead of going through voluminous documents, they can instantly get answers for specific questions such as: “What is the project status?”, “What is the timeline for building construction?”, “How much is left in my budget?”, and so on.

Decision making

The ability of ChatGPT to “think” on its own helps it cull out information and generate insights at a more granular level and on different aspects. This ability can go a long way in helping project managers in the “executive-level” areas such as problem-solving and decision-making. For instance, with ChatGPT professionals can make informed decisions in delegating tasks and managing team members. ChatGPT can even objectively recommend team members who are suitable and available for specific tasks, going by their skills and workload.

Predictive Analytics

As ChatGPT gets trained with Primavera’s database, it can conduct real-time analyses and offer specific predictions. Its predictive analytics capabilities could come in handy when there is a need to project a project’s future status and assess and mitigate potential risks. The chatbot can also generate alerts on potential delays, resource requirements, based on its reading of project timeline, budget, and risks, and project progress.

Learning

ChatGPT can work with external content as well as Primavera’s data concerning local projects and portfolios, and come out with industry best practices, project management methodologies, as well as guidelines for specific projects. This way, ChatGPT with Primavera can be used as a learning tool for training and professional development.

PPM Courses and Training of the Future

It is important to note that ChatGPT is not going to replace enterprise applications. Instead, it is there to add a smart chat feature to them. With ChatGPT, Primavera can provide a more engaging experience to its users. Considering such benefits, project management students and professionals who pursue PPM courses and PPM training should pay special attention to the aspect of making better use of ChatGPT in their work.

Coexistence makes sense

Professionals will continue to use Primavera for all key domains: from robust scheduling to advanced dependency management. There are many areas in that ChatGPT does not have any meaningful role to play. As it stands today, it cannot implement organizational breakdown structures and work breakdown structures, resources, activity constraints, and Gantt charts. It cannot schedule work the way Primavera does. Besides, Primavera too has its own intelligence as it has a long history of processing small and large projects, programs, and portfolios around the world and in different industries.

Hence, it is important for project managers to find a way out to enjoy the best of both worlds: Primavera and ChatGPT. They both can coexist in the enterprise and project management software ecosystem, with their integration providing unthinkable benefits to project sponsors, teams, and clients alike.

Civil engineering is one of the most sought-after branches of engineering and arguably one of the oldest in human history. For thousands of years, people have built impressive monuments that have stood the test of time, all thanks to the dedication of civil engineers.

Women in civil engineering: Challenging gender stereotypes

The Responsibilities of a Civil Engineer

A civil engineer may be concerned with several tasks. The civil engineer is responsible for planning and supervising the construction and renovation of structures, rail and road projects, and local and national infrastructure.

It is a diverse field with great scope and added prestige. There is usually going to be a want for well-certified civil engineers, making this profession one of the maximum futuristic selections to stand the check of time.

Challenging Gender Stereotypes

Even though the number of women in engineering has increased, most girls are attracted to IT or computer science. Civil engineering is traditionally male-dominated industry, as this profession requires not only manual skills but also physical stamina.

However, with major advances in technology, this is no longer a barrier for  girls to pursue a career in civil engineering.

Women in Indian Civil Engineering

In India, women make up the workforce at many construction sites but at an engineering school, few girls choose this branch. Determined to break stereotypes, several girls take the course and volunteer for a job. where they have to work on a construction site. When it comes to choosing a field like construction, mechanical, or electrical, girls are confronted with statements like “this field is not for you”.

Overcoming Stereotypes

All girls wishing to embark on a civil engineering path should not hesitate only because of the line drawn by the society of the division of sectors according to gender.

If you have the attitude, nothing can stop you from achieving your goal. Women can work their qualities to their advantage working in a civil engineering sector because of following reasons.

1. Unique Perspective and Creativity

Women can bring a different perspective when designing and executing a project, which will have a huge positive impact on creating aesthetically appealing structures.

2. Multitasking Abilities

Women are known for their multitasking abilities. It may not be easy for women to break into civil engineering, but it’s not as hard as it sounds. Today we have several prolific female engineers who have made their mark with their intelligence.

3. Leveraging Unique Qualities

Women can succeed in the civil engineering sector by utilizing their unique qualities such as attention to detail, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Conclusion

Civil engineering is a field that offers immense potential for women to make their mark. It’s time to break free from the gender stereotypes that have held women back and encourage them to explore this dynamic profession. Women have the potential to bring creativity, innovation, and a fresh perspective to civil engineering, making it an exciting and rewarding career choice.

Organizations like CADD Centre offer specialized civil engineering courses to support women in navigating the challenges of a male-dominated industry and bring diverse perspectives to their projects.

Many of the most common, useful devices that make modern life possible such as automobiles, batteries, computers, light bulbs, mobile phones and satellites, utilise electricity, a form of energy. Electricity may provide the power necessary for a machine to run, or it can carry data. Someone who intends to work as an electrical engineer should be curious about mysterious forces that significantly affect the universe but aren’t obvious to a layperson because electricity is ordinarily invisible to the naked eye. A future electrical engineer should have a powerful imagination and strong abstract thinking abilities. Electrical engineering is an area of science that investigates the nature of matter and energy.

Electrical engineering requires the interpretation and application of complex theories and demands technical abilities. High-speed electrical machines are widely used in different industries, such as machine tools, aerospace engineering, autonomous power engineering, etc. Power Engineering is one of the earliest fields that has developed within Electrical Engineering. It deals with the generation, transmission and distribution of electric power. Power engineers also work on a variety of power devices and power conversion. Power engineers deal with devices, processes and phenomena, analysis and design, renewable energy and environmentally-friendly power systems.

The electrical machine’s (EM) main task is to provide maximum power with a minimum energy loss and volume of active and constructive elements. The production technology improvement and reduction of the material consumption can significantly reduce the cost of electrical machines, and subsequently, the cost of the systems, where they are used in aircraft and machine tools, or resources obtained with their help like electricity and oil.

The development of new industries and the implementation of macro and micro research projects lead to the emergence of new tasks to increase the efficiency of electrical machines and reduce mass and size parameters. It is important to notice that the main consumers of micro EMs are systems with constant power consumption such as computer systems, navigation systems of unmanned aircraft. This type of load will lead to the fact that with the decrease of the HCPM energy characteristics, the magnetic flux density in the air gap decreases under the temperature influence.

Therefore, the main application areas of high-speed EMs are high-speed machine tools, aviation and space power engineering, as well as autonomous power engineering. The initial application of high-speed EMs is associated with the development of rocket and space technology.

HVAC stands for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. This system provides heating and cooling to residential and commercial buildings. From single-family homes to submarines you can find HVAC systems provide the means for environmental comfort. These systems use fresh air from outdoors to provide high indoor air quality. The V in HVAC or ventilation is the process of replacing or exchanging air within a space. This process involves the removal of moisture, smoke, odors, heat, dust, airborne bacteria, carbon dioxide, and other gases as well as temperature control and oxygen replenishment providing a better quality of air indoors.

There are three main functions of an HVAC system, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning providing acceptable indoor air quality and thermal comfort. The heating element usually refers to a furnace or boiler. The ventilation element is natural or forced and when it is forced it is more often than not used for air cleaning purposes as well. The third and final element of an HVAC system is air conditioning which is the exact opposite of heating. Removing the existing heat from the interior of the home is its main focus.

Air conditioners function by taking heat and humidity from your home and releasing it outside for eventually dropping the temperature in your home. All parts of the central cooling system must work together to complete this process. When the temperature in your home needs to be changed, central cooling kicks off. The thermostat will alert your cooling unit that the temperature needs to drop, and all parts will work simultaneously to get your space to your desired temperature.

Central heating systems can work in the same way as central cooling systems which move air around to change the temperature in your home. Central heating systems move the hot air in to get your home to your desired temperature instead of moving the hot air out. An HVAC device might actually be producing its own heat depending on what HVAC system that is. Heat pumps have the same parts as a split-system air conditioner and work in the same way. When the temperature drops and a heat pump needs to provide heat, the process essentially reverses itself. Once a heat pump registers the function shift, a reversing valve in the outdoor unit kicks on allowing the heat pump to absorb heat energy from the outside air and transfer it into the home to warm it up.

The NASSCOM-McKinsey report “Perspective 2020: Transform Business, Transform India” (2009) said that only 26 percent of India’s engineering graduates were employable. This report was also backed by CP Gurnani, CEO & MD of Tech Mahindra, who has said that 94% of engineering graduates were not fit for hiring.

This staggering percentage is an indication of the fact that colleges are churning out engineers by the minute; yet the talent hardly meet the skill requirements of the industry. While the quantity of talent has considerably gone up, the quality of talent has been on the downward spiral. As Mr. Gurnani has matter-of-factly stated, “We have a skills shortage”. This has led to many corporates either setting up training sectors or depend on establishments involved in training and skilling fresh graduates.

Many factors contribute to the falling employability component of engineers; substandard education, absence of knowledge of the current job scenario among students, lack of involvement of corporates in educational institutions, basic personality and life skills and a poor grasp on the English language.

Every corporate establishment looks for the following qualities in a candidate: Domain skills, aptitude, attitude, language and personality. While our education strives to fulfil the domain aspects of a job, the other factors remain untouched and underdeveloped.

The need of the hour is that every student self-analysis and determines areas of improvement and look for guidance to fill the employability gaps and move forward in a career of his/her choice. Training institutes are, therefore, playing a vital role in making a major chunk of engineering graduates employable by providing vocational training in niche skills and contribute in overall personality development as well.

Innovation in Engineering – Need of the Hour

Technology advancement is in air from so long, knotted almost every single part of our lives. It affects our routines, how people shop, connect, learn, socialize, and play everything. Technology is a giant contributor to the well-being of society. And it has proven itself to be very valuable.

India has been at the front position of the back end of this revolution of innovation in Engineering. A rapid change and development in technology demands the educated and well trained workforce. While engineering study is a key driver for a systematic learning of the practices working in industry, agriculture, and commerce. Innovation in the material, procedures, and patterns of education is the crying need to meet the expectations. Modern engineers use CAD systems throughout the design and testing processes. These studies are then put together to practise in order to make routines much easier. Every stream does have a need of persistent monitoring to recognize areas for possible development, so as engineering too. Engineering in India is still stuck in the industrialised age – assembly line methods inform our education. Education System should go forward for a need to feed the industrial unit, Engineering and management education should upgrade procedures to furnish people and prepare a force who could follow commands and withstand in monotonous procedures. The need of hour is a reliable updation on ongoing basis to grow and run the nation or organization smoothly.

The Indian education market being too nascent to support the industry. In fact currently, the innovators are stepped back due to the hurdles presented by a recent market. Somehow or the other, breadwinners found ways to avoid hurdles in the system, but others still lacking behind.

We are breathing in a constantly changing world. New technologies are emerging every day and if you don’t desire to be left behind, always keep up with the changing scenario. Without innovation in education it will be actually tough to adapt to all these deviations. Simultaneously, this should be acknowledged that engineering is the future of nation and its overall development. Education giants responded to the needs of the companies and skilled students in performing task based activities. They should learn to respect hierarchies – which represent both authority and ambition. A well educated person is well aware of the modern technologies and the changes that are taking place in the world, if educated accordingly.

“Make in India” Expands Scope for Engineers

Make in India is an initiative by Prime Minister- Mr. Narendra Modi that focuses on 25 sectors of the economy for skills enhancement and job creation. The list includes: IT, textiles, chemicals, tourism and hospitality, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, ports, aviation, bio-technology, leather, wellness, design manufacturing, mining, railways, renewable energy, and electronics. The initiative is expected to drive an increase in tax revenue and GDP growth.

With the bell of ‘Make in India’, any industry which requires monitoring, sensing and controlling of variables has rapidly growing employment opportunities in the horizon; and it’s time for engineers to take it on a serious note . Areas like process automation, factory automation, manufacturing industries (testing, design, and quality control), consultants (turnkey projects /solution providers), system engineering, embedded systems and electronic circuit plan uncover the plenty of job opportunities for engineers via this initiative.

Before the initiative was introduced, foreign equity caps in many sectors had been relaxed. The request for licenses was made accessible online and the strength of licenses was increased to 3 years. The initiative also targets at quality standards and reducing the impact on the nature. The initiative hopes to attract capital and technological investment in India.

Some Promising Numbers

Out of 25 sectors, except Defence (49%) Space (74%), and Media (26%), 100% Foreign Direct Investment is allowed in the rest of the sectors.

Below listed Business giants investing under the Make in India plan which may benefit engineers to breathe their dreams:

1. The Spice Group will initiate a mobile phone manufacturing unit in Uttar Pradesh(UP) with an investment of Rs.500 crore.

2. Samsung INS coming up with a joint initiative under which 10 “MSME-Samsung Technical Schools” will be started in India. In February, Samsung said that will produce the Samsung Z1 in its plant in Noida.

3. Hitachi would increase its workforces in India from 10,000 to 13,000.

4. Huawei opened a new research and development campus in Bengaluru. It had capitalized US$170 million to launch the research and development centre.

5. Marine Products Export Development Authority said that it was concerned in supplying shrimp eggs to farmers in India.

6. France-based LH Aviation contracted a MoU with OIS Advanced Technologies to establish a manufacturing plant in India to manufacture drones.

India’s technical talent is second to none. Indian technical forces have expertise that cannot be found anywhere else around the globe. Specifically, Indians do have a rare capacity for creating creative resolutions with limited resources when compared with the engineers in the West. If the prime minister is giving his full support to the manufacturing sector through the Make in India movement, career openings must be explored far beyond what was previously thought possible for Engineers.
